Iranian President: We welcome the improvement of relations with Saudi Arabia on the basis of agreements in Iraq

Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi said Tehran welcomes rapprochement with Saudi Arabia during a meeting he had with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazemi on the sidelines of the General Assembly in New York.

Raisi said Iran “appreciates the goodwill and efforts of the Iraqi government and prime minister to improve relations between countries in the region, including Iran and Saudi Arabia.”

He added that Iran “welcomes the improvement of relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, but we insist that this process proceed on the basis of the agreements and understandings reached in the negotiations between the officials of the two countries in Iraq.”

Raisi stressed that his country “always took into account the interests of the Islamic nation in its regional relations.”
