Iran … the arrest of more than 700 people in Kailan and Raisi highlights the need to fight hard against those who violate security and stability

Iranian police arrested more than 700 people in Gilan province in about a week of protests that followed the death of a young woman, Mahsa Amini, who died after being arrested by police, according to the Tasneem news agency.

General Azizullah Maliki, chief of police in Gilan province, said “739 rioters, including 60 women, were arrested,” the agency said.

For his part, Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi underlined “the need to fight hard against those who violate public security”, saying: “It is necessary to distinguish between protest and violation of public order and security.”

Ibrahim Raisi contacted the family of Muhammad Rasul Dost Mohammadi, who is associated with the Basij Popular Mobilization Forces and who was stabbed last Wednesday in a “riot” in the central city of Mashhad, Khorasan Razavi Province, in the country’s northeast, IRNA reported.

In a telephone conversation, Raisi expressed his condolences for the killing of the Basij member, emphasizing “the continuation of the investigation into the case and the strong treatment of those involved and involved in this crime.”

Similar incidents leading up to the assassination of Dost Mohammadi he called “chaos and disorder”.
