Iran announced the seizure of more than one ton and 671 kilograms of drugs and the arrest of four smugglers by the anti-narcotics police in the provinces of Sistan and Balochistan in the country’s southeast.
Brigadier General Ahmed Taheri, Commander of the Internal Security Forces in Sistan and Balochistan, said today on Saturday that “The provincial anti-narcotics police, with intelligence support from the Internal Security Forces, have been monitoring the movements of members of a smuggling ring that intended to smuggle large quantities of drugs from Sarawan to the towns of Khash. and Iranshehr, and then smuggled them into the central regions of the country.
“During this operation, the police managed to seize one ton, 671 kilograms and 100 grams of opium, as well as some weapons, and arrested four smugglers,” Taheri added.
Iran is on the drug trafficking route and annually spends huge amounts of money to combat it.
