The Inter club suffered a sudden 2-1 defeat at home to La Spezia on Friday at the opening of the 26th leg of the Italian Football League.
Spezia pushed ahead with Daniel Maldini’s goal in the 55th minute, while Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku equalized for Inter in the 83rd minute from a penalty spot.
Three minutes before the end of regular time, Mbala Nzola awarded Spezia the winning goal from the penalty spot.
Spezia lifted their lead to 24 points in seventeenth place, while Inter’s balance stood at 50 points in second place, 15 points behind leaders Napoli, who will face host Atalanta tomorrow Saturday at the top of stage 26 .
Inter’s defeat comes ahead of its fateful showdown with Portuguese hosts Porto the following Tuesday in the second leg of the Champions League final.
Inter won the first leg with no answer.
