International organization: heat waves will become stronger until 2060

The International Meteorological Organization has warned that heatwaves caused by climate change will become more frequent and intense in the coming decades and will continue until at least 2060.

“The negative climate trend will continue until at least 2060,” WMO Secretary-General Petteri Taalas said at a press briefing in Geneva.

He added that these heatwaves are “becoming more frequent due to climate change” and blamed carbon dioxide emissions.

Talas compared the climate to an athlete who improves his performance by taking illegal drugs.

“We “healed” the climate by adding more carbon dioxide,” he added.
