Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier had commented on the news in response to these claims, confirming Hope’s account.

Next year, they’ll be selling new MW2 content, possibly an expansion (not sure exactly what that will look like, but it will also include campaign content),” Jason wrote on Twitter.

In a previous statement, Schreier hinted that Modern Warfare 2 would receive some paid DLC in the first half of 2022, with a free-to-play version following in 2023.

We understand that this free-to-play title was almost certainly Warzone 2.

Following Activision’s rumored delay of Treyarch’s next game, which is now set to release in 2024, a paid DLC makes a ton of sense. Its premium DLC offering would make up for 2023’s lack of a premium title in some small way.

We know that the paid DLC for Modern Warfare 2 will consist of many multiplayer maps from earlier games that have been remastered. It is understood that this DLC would be “huge” compared to its free seasoned content to ensure the proof of a paid DLC.

It’s unclear if Activision intends to remake Modern Warfare 3 (2011), as they did with Modern Warfare 2, or if the campaign DLC offering will continue Modern Warfare 2. (2009).

The last time Call of Duty offered a paid DLC was with Zombies Chronicles in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. Since then, Call of Duty has continued its free live service model.
