Illegal Attempts to Leave Ukraine Uncovered by Authorities on a Daily Basis

The Ukrainian border service said it detains about 20 people a day when they try to illegally cross the country’s border, and also prevents about 150 more people from leaving the country every day.

Andriy Demchenko, spokesman for the Border Service of Ukraine, said today, Sunday, in an interview with the Rada TV channel: “Every day, border guards detain about 20 people trying to illegally cross the border, or outside official checkpoints. or directly through them. Also, another 120-150 people are denied permission to cross the border every day.”

Demchenko added that those who want to leave Ukraine are trying to present false documents confirming their right to leave.

This right is granted to men who have presented a certificate of the death of their wife or father, who have three children who have not reached the age of majority, and who are recognized as unfit for military service for health reasons.

On February 24, 2022, Ukraine declared martial law, and the next day, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a general mobilization decree that prohibited men in military service from leaving the country.
