IBF bans 2024 Olympic qualifiers

International Olympic Committee (IOC) sporting director Keith McConnell has announced that the International Boxing Association (IBA) has been banned from hosting qualifying rounds for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

“In the interests of athletes, the Olympic qualification will not be held under the auspices of the International Boxing Federation (IBA). The qualification will be held by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) together with the Organizing Committee of the 2024 Olympics, ”the Russian TASS reports. The news agency quotes Keith McConnell.

It is noteworthy that the International Olympic Committee made such a decision due to an administrative crisis after the re-election of Russian Omar Krymlev to the post of president of the International Boxing Federation (IBA) in mid-May in Istanbul, Turkey.

Krimlev was the only candidate for the position after the International Boxing Federation’s integrity department disqualified the only other candidate he competed against, Dutchman Boris van der West.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne declared illegal the removal of athletes from participation in the election of the President of the International Boxing Federation.
