It is worth noting that President Jair Bolsonaro, since coming to power in 2019, has issued several decrees that make it easier for Brazilians to own weapons, as well as increasing the number of weapons and the amount of ammunition that each person is allowed to own .

“Every dictatorship begins with the disarmament of the population,” André Lago, 45, one of the demonstrators, was quoted by AFP as saying.

“We want everyone to have the freedom to defend their property and their families,” he added, expressing his support for taking up arms.
