Head of Israeli National Security Council: We are close to a historic agreement on the demarcation of the maritime border with Lebanon

Israeli National Security Council chief Eyal Hultah said Israel is close to reaching a historic agreement to demarcate the maritime border with Lebanon.

Hultah was quoted by Israel Army Radio as saying that “all of our demands have been met and the changes we requested have been corrected.”

He emphasized: “We have preserved Israel’s security interests”, adding: “We are on the way to a historic agreement with Lebanon.”

The Israeli newspaper Maariv quoted Israeli officials as saying that “Lebanon has abandoned the fundamental amendments rejected by Israel in the maritime demarcation agreement between the two sides.”

For its part, the Israeli website Walla reported that a US official confirmed that “Lebanon and Israel are close to a demarcation agreement,” noting that “the Americans have made it clear that the final amended agreement, which was handed over to Lebanon and Israel, final text and there will be no further negotiations.”
