Guterres: If there is a nuclear war, the UN will not be able to respond to it

UN Secretary-General António Guterres said that if a nuclear war breaks out, the United Nations will not be able to respond.

During a press conference in the Japanese capital, where he participated in the celebration of the 77th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Guterres said that “the UN will not be able to respond in any way to a possible nuclear conflict, because in the event of a global nuclear war, it probably will not have the United Nations able to respond.”

“Nuclear war will mean the destruction of the planet,” he stressed, calling on the nuclear powers to commit themselves not to resort to the use of such weapons.

“Obviously, if no one had used it first, there would have been no nuclear war,” he added.
