Guaranteeing Ukraine’s Security: NATO vs. Nuclear Weapons in Estonia

Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Rinsalo believed that the only possible security guarantees for Ukraine were granting it full membership in NATO or providing it with nuclear weapons.

“Frankly, the only guarantee of Ukraine’s security, other than joining NATO, would be the supply of nuclear weapons to Ukraine,” Renzalo said in an interview with Newsweek published on Thursday.

Rinsalo expressed the opinion that statements about “open doors” to the coalition are not enough, it is necessary to accept Ukraine into the coalition. According to the Estonian minister, the refusal to do so means that NATO should expect a new conflict between Ukraine and Russia in the future.
