German police arrested four people who were active in organizing illegal immigration from Syria and Iraq to the European Union via Belarus after their network smuggled at least 300 migrants.
The Potsdam police reported the arrest of two suspects in the city of Forest, in the vicinity of Berlin, and two more in the capital, and also indicated that 14 raids were carried out in several regions of Germany.
The four suspects came from Syria and Iraq, police said, and the search for at least two more people continues.
They are suspected of smuggling into Germany at least 300 refugees in cars or buses in the amount of 3,500 to 10,000 euros.
According to the police, the journey to Europe comes from the Middle East, usually from Dubai or Beirut, through Belarus and Poland in dangerous conditions.
