Sarah Wackennecht, a member of the Bundestag from the Left Party, accused some Western countries of unleashing the crisis in Ukraine.
Fekenknecht hoped delegates to the Left Party conference in Erfurt this weekend would debate the thorny issue, as she stressed that the Left Party should not engage in the “ridiculous rhetoric” of the German government announcing February 24, 2022 “point” in history, according to the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung .
Calling for heed to the Pope’s words about the reasons for the Russian special operation in Ukraine, she said: “The left side should not disregard the words of the Pope, who pointed out that ‘NATO barking at the gates of Russia’ partly contributed to the unleashing of the conflict. Nothing can justify the conflict in Ukraine, but it could have been avoided.”
She emphasized that the collective responsibility of the West, led by the United States, should not become a taboo subject for the Left Party.
