French PM: Macron’s reception of Saudi Crown Prince does not affect our commitment to human rights

French Prime Minister Elisabeth Born confirmed that the visit of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to the Élysée Palace as part of his European tour does not affect the commitment of Paris to the protection of human rights.

“This, of course, is not a rejection of our principles, this does not affect our commitment to human rights,” Bourne said, from the east of the country. “The President of the Republic will have the opportunity to discuss this issue with Mohammed bin Salman.”

“I think the French will not understand in a context in which we know that Russia is cutting and threatening to cut and cut gas supplies again, and when there is tension over energy prices that we do not discuss with countries that are specifically energy producers , said Born, who spoke during the press conference.

“Of course, this does not raise questions about human rights expectations,” she added.

The French President said that Emmanuel Macron will address the “problem of human rights” during Thursday’s dinner with Mohammed bin Salman.

Western countries have distanced themselves from Mohammed bin Salman after the assassination of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018 at his country’s consulate in Istanbul.
