French League: Lorient-Lyon match postponed due to bad grass

The French Football League announced today, Friday, the postponement of the match scheduled for Sunday between Lorient and its guest Lyon in the second stage of the French league, due to the poor condition of the grass on the pitch.

“Following a report made following a double visit by League delegates to Lorient on August 11 and 12, the competition committee concluded that the current situation at the Mostuar stadium does not guarantee the safety of the players at the Lorient-Lyon match,” the statement reads. This is stated in the message of the league.

“As a result, the League competitions committee has decided to postpone the match between Lorient and Olympique Lyon to a later date.”

The floor of the Mostoar stadium appeared to be very damaged earlier in the week as it suffered the combined effects of the drought and the annual Interceltic festival, while Lyon warned against holding the meeting in such conditions in order to preserve the “physical safety of the players”.

Lyon and Lorient are seventh and eighth respectively in the French league standings with 3 points each after the former beat Ajaccio 2-1 and the latter beat Rennes 1-0 in the first stage and the incumbent Champions Paris Saint-Germain lead the league on goal difference with a crushing win over Clermont by five clean sheets.
