French foreign minister vows to help Greece if its sovereignty is threatened

French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna confirmed that her country will support Greece and Cyprus in the event of a threat to their national sovereignty.

Minister Colonna made the announcement following talks she had in Athens with Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias, and her statements were broadcast by the Greek public television ERT.

For his part, the Greek minister condemned the “unprecedented” statements of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in which he warned Greece of a tough response in the event that “Greek provocations” continue.

Not heard. This is unfortunate. But we will not stand still. We will not be afraid. In our history, we have faced much greater threats. We reject neo-Ottoman attacks. But to anyone planning attacks on Greece, I advise you to think three and four times. We have confidence in our alliances and our partners.”

In turn, Ekaterina Colonna supported the statements of the Greek Foreign Ministry and stated: “France stated this, and I repeat that it will be on the side of Greece and Cyprus in case of a threat to national sovereignty. The fact is that we signed an agreement, article 21 of which clarifies this situation, and if both parties are convinced that this will happen. Therefore, mutual assistance will be provided to both sides.”
