French football federation president resigns over Zidane and allegations of sexual harassment

Today, on Tuesday, French Football Federation President Noel Le Grae formally resigned from his post due to the crisis he suffered recently, after more than two months of suspension of his duties.

On January 11, the French Football Federation suspended the duties of 81-year-old Le Grey and temporarily appointed Philippe Diallo as his deputy.

On January 16, 2023, the Paris prosecutor’s office opened an investigation against the businessman for moral and sexual harassment, following the testimony of the business agent of several French players, Sonya Svid, which was heard by the auditors of the General Inspectorate for Education, Sports and Research.

Le Gré has also been criticized for his remarks about French football legend Zinedine Zidane, winner of the 1998 World Cup, which upset players, politicians and fans of the player.

Le Graet mocked Zidane after renewing Didier Deschamps’ contract as France coach until 2026, after the end of the 2022 World Cup.

Le Gré responded to a question about him by saying: “Zinedine Zidane, I wouldn’t even answer the phone to tell him what? Hello sir, don’t worry, look for another club. I have reached an agreement with Deschamps.”

Le Graet has been President of the French Football Federation since 2011, during which he has led French football to many achievements.

In his era, the French team managed to win the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, reach the final of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and also win the 2021 European Nations League.
