The French government announced that some 782,000 people were protesting across France today, Labor Day Monday, while the CGT trade union counted 2.3 million demonstrators against “reform” of the pension system.
Some 782,000 people protested across France today, Labor Day Monday, in a new display of anger against President Emmanuel Macron’s pension reform, according to the French Ministry of the Interior, including 112,000 people in Paris alone.
The CGT union said it had 2.3 million demonstrators across France, including 550,000 in the capital.
The turnout was significantly higher than on May 1 last year, but lower than the largest protests against pension reform in the country this year.
