Four dead, 29 missing after boat carrying migrants found off Canary Islands

Rescue teams announced that 4 bodies were found aboard a migration vessel off the Canary Islands on Sunday and only one survivor was rescued from the sinking, while the NGO indicated the vessel was sailing with 34 people on board.

The Spanish Coast Guard said on Twitter that “they found the bodies of four people” who were on a boat 150 nautical miles southwest of the island of Gran Canaria, while a passing merchant ship on Saturday evening rescued the man who was the only survivor, according to Agence France Press.

In turn, Caminando Fronteras confirmed in a Twitter statement that it had received a distress call from the same vessel on September 24, hours after it sailed from the coast of Western Sahara “with 34 people on board.”
