The representative of the mining and smelting company Evraz, the largest shareholder of which is the former owner of the London Chelsea club Roman Abramovich, denied information about negotiations on the acquisition of the Spartak Moscow football club.
“The company is not considering the possibility of buying sports teams or clubs,” a company representative told RBC-Sport.
Yesterday, Tuesday, the media reported on the purchase of the Russian club Spartak by Evraz, without disclosing the details of a possible deal.
Russian billionaire Abramovich is Evraz’s largest shareholder, holding a 28.64% stake in the company.
The Russian club has been owned by Leonid Fedun since 2004, while the Moscow club finished tenth in the Russian Championship and won the Russian Cup last season.
Notably, Roman Abramovich, 55, bought Chelsea Football Club in 2003 for £140 million (about $233 million at the time) from former English owner Ken Bates and was forced to sell it due to pressure he faced against the successor of the Russian military operation in Russia Ukraine.
