Former Barcelona coach Valverde has officially become the new coach of Athletic Bilbao.

Spanish club Athletic Bilbao released an official statement today, Thursday, announcing their contract with coach Ernesto Valverde, who will take charge of the team’s coaching starting next season.

Ernesto Valverde will return to the coaching world once again after being sacked by Barcelona in January 2020.

Athletic Bilbao have confirmed on their official website that they have signed coach Ernesto Valverde, who has made the most appearances in the history of the Basque club with 306 appearances.

And Ernesto Valverde is coaching Athletic Bilbao in his third term, coaching the team for the first time between 2003 and 2005 before taking charge again between 2013 and 2017.

Valverde was able to break a 31-year titleless drought with Athletic Bilbao when he won the 2015 Spanish Super Cup at the expense of Barcelona.

Valverde will return to the spotlight again after his stint with Barcelona (2017–2020), in which he won four titles: La Liga (twice), Copa del Rey (once) and Supercopa de España (once).

Valverde began his coaching career with the Basque team Athletic Bilbao as a youth group coach, then was promoted to first team assistant coach and then technical director, after which he coached Espanyol and Olympiacos for two spells. , Villarreal and Valencia, returned to Athletic Bilbao again, and then left for Barcelona.
