Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has signed several bills to prevent Chinese citizens from buying land in the state.
In a press release, DeSantis announced the signing of bills SB 264, SB 846, and SB 258, noting that last year he urged the state legislature to step up its efforts to crack down on corporate espionage and college-educated Chinese Communist Party stunts.
And SB 264, called “Foreign Interests,” will prohibit “government entities from entering into contracts with foreign countries and related entities and restrict the transfer of agricultural land and other real estate interests to foreign administrators,” including China and government entities and individuals. .
SB 864, titled Educational Institutions with Foreign Organizations, prohibits public colleges and universities, and their employees and representatives, from accepting any gifts “in their official capacity from a college or university based in a foreign country of concern.”
And SB 258 will require the state Department of Administrative Services to “create a list of prohibited applications owned by a foreign administrator or relevant foreign countries, including China, that pose a risk to cybersecurity and data privacy.”
