The Russian Trade Representation in China reported that the first train of 50 containers of tea left the Chinese city of Wuhan yesterday, Friday, in the direction of Moscow.

The Russian trade mission said that this is being carried out as part of a new project “Special trains for the export of tea to Russia.”

In a statement today, the mission indicated that “tea” trains from Wuhan plan to run to Russia on a regular basis.

“On August 26, the first train of 50 containers (about 1,000 tons) departed from Wuhan to Moscow as part of a new project – Special Trains for Tea Export to Russia,” the statement said.

It is noteworthy that the celebration of the launch of the first “tea” train to Russia was attended by a group of high-ranking Chinese officials on the ground, as well as representatives of local businesses.

For his part, Russian trade representative in China Alexei Dakhnovsky, greeting the participants via video recording, said that “Wuhan greatly contributed to the emergence of tea drinking traditions in Russia in the middle of the 18th century, since this city was the center of tea trade between Russia and China.”
