FIFA Suspends Luis Rubiales for Kissing Player Jenny Hermoso
FIFA has suspended Spanish federation president Luis Rubiales for kissing player Jenny Hermoso on the lips after Spain won the Women’s World Cup in Sydney.
“Today, we have decided to suspend Mr. Luis Rubiales from all football-related activities, both domestically and internationally,” FIFA said in a statement posted on its website on Saturday, explaining that the temporary ban will last 90 days before disciplinary action is taken.

He continued: “The Chairman of the International Federation of Football Association Disciplinary Committee, in order to preserve the rights of the player Jennifer Hermoso and a good system of disciplinary procedures, has issued additional instructions in which he instructs Mr. Luis Rubiales to refrain, through himself or third parties, from communicating or attempting to communicate with a female player. The Spanish national team or a team close to it.
And he added: “FIFA also orders the Spanish Federation and its employees to refrain from communicating with the Spanish national team player Jennifer Hermoso or people close to her directly or through third parties.”
The statement goes on to say: “The decision of the Chairman of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has been brought to the attention of Mr. Luis Rubiales, the Spanish and European Confederations for proper implementation.”
And he concluded: “The FIFA Disciplinary Committee will not provide any additional information about this procedure until a final decision is made on it. FIFA reaffirms its absolute commitment to respecting the safety of all individuals and therefore strongly condemns any conduct contrary to that.”
