FIFA President Gianni Infantino Re-elected Unanimously

Gianni Infantino was re-elected as FIFA President today, Thursday, until 2027.

The FIFA President was elected at the 73rd FIFA Congress in Kigali (Rwanda).

Infantino was the only candidate for the position and no vote was taken as the delegates supported the re-election with applause.

Infantino, 52, married to Lebanese Lina Al-Ashkar, is running until 2027.

Infantino, who has Swiss and Italian citizenship, took over FIFA on February 26, 2016 after a corruption scandal in the organization and the early resignation of its former president, Joseph Blatter, from office.

In June 2019, Infantino was elected to a second term, and the elections were held without an alternative.

Prior to his appointment as FIFA President, Infantino served as Secretary General of the International Center for Sports Studies and worked as a consultant for several sports organizations in Italy, Spain and Switzerland before starting work with the European Union in August 2000. He also served from 2004 to 2007 as Head of the Legal Department, then as Interim General Secretary with leadership of the Legal Department (2007-2009) and finally as General Secretary from October 2009 during Platini’s presidency.
