"FIFA" India’s ban on hosting Women’s Under-17 World Cup lifted

FIFA on Friday ended its suspension of the Indian Football Association, ensuring the country can host the Women’s Under-17 World Cup in October.

The move was expected this week after India’s Supreme Court returned control of the National Football Association to its administration, returning the governing body to football officials, as FIFA wanted.

Last week, FIFA suspended the activities of the Indian International Football Association “due to the undue influence of third parties.”

FIFA sometimes uses this method to protect member associations from the influence of government or legal bodies seeking to influence football at the national level.

In May, the Supreme Court of India removed Praful Patel as President of the All India Football Association for not holding elections due by December 2020 and for remaining in office beyond that date.

The Women’s Under-17 World Cup will take place from October 11 to 30, with four matches scheduled for the opening day, including a match between the host nation, India, and the United States.
