Fearful of Russia’s plans for oil pricing, Biden monitors the political situation in Italy

The White House said that President Joe Biden is closely monitoring the political situation in Italy after Prime Minister Mario Draghi’s decision to step down as Washington and its allies plan to impose a price ceiling on Russian oil.

US national security adviser Jake Sullivan said the White House could not predict how the decision would affect Washington’s plans to cap the price of Russian oil.

“I can’t talk about internal dynamics and I would say that President Biden has a lot of respect for Prime Minister Draghi, so of course he keeps a close eye on how things are going in Rome. Let’s see what happens.” Sullivan said.

Earlier, Draghi announced his decision to resign, but Italian President Sergio Mattarella rejected the resignation of the prime minister.
