Explosions shake a number of Ukrainian cities, causing massive power outages

Ukrainian officials have announced that the Ukrainian cities of Lvov in the west and Kharkiv in the east, the capital Kyiv and a large number of cities are being bombed and power outages across large parts of the country.

“There are strong explosions in Lviv, residents should remain in shelters,” said Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi, stressing that after the raids on the city, most of the city was de-energized.

Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekov said the city was hit by a “missile attack” on the city’s industrial zone, in particular on an important infrastructure facility, which led to a power outage.

According to the Ukrainian media, “in Zhytomyr, Kharkiv and Kyiv, electricity was cut off in many areas in some areas of the cities as a result of the bombing.”

The Ukrainian press also pointed out that the capital Kyiv was bombed to hit vital objects, and the movement of trains in the subway stopped.

And the Ukrainian Energy Company announced a blackout in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv following an emergency warning.

“There is an emergency power outage in Kyiv. The previously published emergency shutdown schedules are not valid now,” the company said in a statement.

The Ukrainian newspaper “Strana” published video clips showing several explosions in Kyiv, columns of smoke rising over the city.
