expert talking about "stumbling block" In gas negotiations between Qatar and Europe

Energy expert Ilya Kalinkov noted that the problem of gas availability could force European consumers to abandon spot purchases and reconsider their position on long-term contracts.

The statement came in response to a Bloomberg report that indicated that Qatar is asking the European Union to sign a long-term contract for the supply of liquefied natural gas.

“Because the construction of new LNG plants requires significant investment, it is natural that Qatar would like a guarantee from the buyer,” said Kalinkov, who is now the CEO of European Electrical Engineering. They will be required at fixed prices. We also really need to reconsider our position on long-term contracts.”

The expert pointed out that the European Commission has always opposed the long-term contracts that Gazprom previously entered into, and for years has advocated the conclusion of spot contracts, and this has led to the fact that now Europe is forced to buy gas. at a price several times higher.

And last Thursday, Bloomberg reported, citing sources, that Qatar may ask the European Union to sign a long-term contract for the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Qatar’s demands come at a time when European Union countries are asking for short deadlines to meet pollution reduction targets in the region, and the agency has indicated that negotiations over the timing of imports have stalled since March last year.
