European Nations League. Netherlands close to qualifying as Belgium makes it harder for Wales

The Netherlands took their fourth consecutive European Nations League victory after beating Poland 2-0 in the fifth round of Group D at the first tier, in which Belgium also beat Wales 2-1.

In the first match, At-Tawahin’s goals in the 14th and 60th minutes were scored by Eindhoven striker Cody Gakbo and Ajax striker Stephen Burchwin.

The Dutch team thus remained at the top of their group with 13 points from five matches, 3 points ahead of the second-placed Belgian.

While Poland remained third with four points ahead of Wales (one point).

Dutch coach Louis van Gaal’s men no longer need more than a point against Belgium next Sunday in Amsterdam to secure a spot in the European Nations League semi-finals.

This strong performance by the orange team is considered good preparation ahead of their first match at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar against African champions Senegal on November 21 before meeting hosts and Ecuador.

In the second matchup, goals from Manchester City forward Kevin De Bruyne and Turkish Fenerbahce Misha Batshuayi were enough in the 11th and 38th minutes for Belgium to beat Wales, who scored an orphan goal in the 50th minute from Bournemouth striker Kiefer Moore.

This Belgian victory is due to the absence of Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku due to injury.

With this win, the Red Devils finished second behind the Netherlands with 10 points and Wales finished last in the standings with one point, and so Wales must beat Poland in Cardiff to avoid relegation to the second tier.
