Europe establishes a legal framework for the use of frozen Russian assets in "Reconstruction of Ukraine"

Speaking before the European Parliament, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the Commission was preparing a legal framework for the transfer of frozen Russian assets to be used in the reconstruction of Ukraine.

“The European Commission considers this a fair step and is preparing a legal framework for the use of frozen Russian assets and the assets of Russian oligarchs to cover Ukraine’s needs for reconstruction,” added von der Leyen.

The European official indicated that the EU countries would not wait for the end of the conflict in Ukraine, and the EU, together with the G7 countries, would hold a conference of experts to determine the fate of Russian assets.

“The reconstruction process will require huge efforts. We have never carried out operations of this magnitude, so for its preparation we will have to gather the most insightful and experienced minds, ”said the President of the European Commission.

Western countries stepped up sanctions pressure on Moscow after the start of a special operation in Ukraine.

The Kremlin called these restrictive measures an economic war. As President Vladimir Putin emphasized, the policy of containing and weakening Russia is a long-term strategy of the West, the main goal of which is to harm the lives of millions of people.
