EU energy ministers fail to agree on Russian gas price ceiling

European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson said after an emergency meeting of EU energy ministers that the countries of the union could not agree on setting a price ceiling for Russian gas.

“The decision has not yet been made,” Simpson added, noting how much Russia has profited from gas sales to the EU and arguing that imposing a price cap would hurt Moscow’s revenues.

Russia, for its part, has previously warned that any attempt to price its oil or gas would force it to cut supplies, which could drive up prices and hurt the European and global economy.
