European Union leaders discussed at their summit in Brussels on Thursday the use of frozen Russian assets in the bloc to fund Ukraine’s reconstruction.
According to the final statement of the summit, the leaders instructed the European Commission and Commissioner for Foreign Affairs and Security Josep Borrell to continue work in this direction.
The leaders expressed support for “continued efforts to hold Russia accountable for the war against Ukraine.”
And European leaders considered that “Russia has not shown real readiness for a just and lasting peace,” emphasizing its readiness to promote the sanctions policy.
This is happening against the backdrop of an agreement by European countries on the ninth package of sanctions against Russia in connection with its military operation in Ukraine.
It is worth noting that Moscow has repeatedly confirmed its openness to negotiations, but pointed to the impossibility of negotiations in the light of the current position of the Ukrainian authorities.
