Estonia urges to include a ban on the entry of Russians into the EU in the new sanctions package

Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu expressed his conviction that the ban on the entry of Russian citizens into the European Union should be included in the next package of sanctions.

And, according to Bloomberg, this initiative will allow us to respond to the special operation in Ukraine with “additional sanctions … and increased isolation of Russia.”

During his visit to Kyiv, the head of the Estonian Foreign Ministry said that the next package of sanctions should include such a measure as a ban on the issuance of entry visas to Russian citizens in the European Union.

Reinsalo previously indicated that he would put forward the idea of all-European restrictions on the entry of Russians into the countries of the bloc at a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Prague scheduled for August.

Rinsallo also explained that the Estonian authorities are considering introducing a rule requiring Russian citizens entering the republic to officially declare at the border that they condemn the special operation in Ukraine. He noted that it is proposed to extend this principle to the acquisition of Estonian citizenship through the naturalization process.
