Erdogan: My rapport with Russia’s President is exceptional and evolving

In an interview with CNN, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan described his relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin as special and growing, stressing that Ankara and Moscow need each other in every possible area.

Erdogan said: “Currently, we have no problems in relations with Russia, and we are not at the stage where we impose sanctions against Russia, as the West did.”

He added: “We are not bound by Western sanctions,” despite growing pressure on Ankara to increase Western sanctions against Moscow.

Erdogan criticized the West’s unbalanced approach to Russia, saying, “You need a balanced approach to a country like Russia. We are a strong country and we have positive relations with Russia.”

He added: “Russia and Turkey need each other in every possible area.”
