Erdogan: Grain shipment agreement is an important diplomatic success for Turkey

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the Ankara-sponsored deal to ship grain from Ukraine was an important diplomatic success for his country, even if the Turkish opposition didn’t realize how important it was.

In his speech after presiding over a government meeting at the Presidential Complex in Ankara, Erdogan stressed that “this initiative, launched by the leadership of our country, represents an important diplomatic success, even if the opposition cannot realize how important it is.”

Earlier today, the Turkish Ministry of Defense reported that the first ship with corn left the Ukrainian port of Odessa in accordance with the agreement on the shipment of grain and headed for Lebanon.

On July 22, under the patronage of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the signing ceremony of the “Document on the initiative for the safe delivery of grain and food from the ports of Ukraine” between Turkey, Russia, Ukraine and the UN was held in Istanbul.

The agreement guarantees the safety of exporting grain stuck in Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea (Eastern Europe) to the world.
