Eight civilians were killed in an armed attack on people celebrating the christening of a child in Burkina Faso.

A security source told AFP that eight civilians were killed in eastern Burkina Faso on Monday when gunmen attacked villagers who were celebrating a child’s christening.

The source said that “the attack killed eight civilians in Sandiag”, a village located in the Kolbelogu district in the east of the country.

This result was confirmed by a local resident, who noted that “the victims were present at the dean’s office party when gunmen broke into the place around 09:00 (local and international time) and shot many people.”

Many people died in the explosion of two explosive devices and in a military operation carried out by the army against militants in the north and northeast of Burkina on Sunday, according to another agency security source.

The source said that in the cities of Bolonga and Alga, located in the province of Bam (north), two explosive devices exploded when two cars with women were passing, as a result of which “six people were killed and two were injured.”

He added that the army carried out a military operation against armed groups in the forests of Diarkadogo and Lunioro in the northeastern province of Bogoriba, which made it possible to “eliminate three terrorist bases and neutralize about twenty jihadists.”
