Egyptian runner Basant Hamida has confirmed that she has decided not to compete in the 18th World Championships in Eugene, USA due to injury.
Basant’s withdrawal from the World Championships caused a heated debate in the Egyptian sports community, prompting the Egyptian star to react.
Basant wrote via her official Facebook account today, Saturday: “To clear up the false news circulating about my decision to withdraw from the World Cup in America now. All people know that I apologize for the African Championships, which were scheduled two weeks before the Mediterranean Games. The only thing is that there is not enough time for treatment due to an injury, but I decided to participate in the (last) Mediterranean Games in Algiers on my own responsibility, despite the injury.
And she added: “I was present at the headquarters of the Egyptian Medical Committee in Algeria every day, morning and evening, for treatment throughout the stay during the week before the competition, and they (officials of the Egyptian Medical Committee) can confirm my words.”
And she continued: “And so that I could play, I took all possible painkillers so as not to feel pain, and now I am in the stage of proper treatment and good rehabilitation in order to participate in the next international competitions. “
