Egypt.. Establishment of the first factory for the production of patches for the treatment of burns and diabetic foot

Egypt has decided to establish the first plant for the production of patches for the treatment of burns and diabetic foot from the amniotic tissue of the birth placenta at the National Center for Radiation Research and Technology of the Atomic Energy Agency.

The decision was made after obtaining the approval of the Egyptian Ministry of Health and the Egyptian Medicines Authority that Egypt officially start manufacturing this treatment with a quality that surpasses the foreign product due to the peaceful use of atomic energy, since the cost of this treatment in America reaches up to 800 dollars per patch, in while in Egypt it can be bought for as little as 300 pounds.

Dr. Sahar Ismail, head of the National Center for Radiation Research and Technology of the Atomic Energy Administration, said that the amniotic tissue irradiation project began in 2004 on the recommendation of the International Atomic Energy Agency, and since then the Atomic Energy Agency, through a scientific group led by Dr. Nashwa Kamal Radwan has done a lot of research and experimentation to update the product and benefit from it in the treatment of burns, diabetic foot, wrinkles and other diseases and skin ulcers.

The head of the National Center for Radiation Research and Technology explained that the body, headed by Dr. Amr El-Haj, has received approval from the Egyptian Ministry of Health and the Egyptian Medicines Authority to produce stickers for the treatment of burns, diabetic foot. and wrinkles removed from the placenta after irradiation, confirming Egypt’s ability to benefit from the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

Dr Sahar Ismail added that the factory will initially operate with a production capacity of 12,000 stickers per month, at a rate of 120,000 per year, indicating that the necessary procedures and licenses are being followed for the factory and it is expected to be operational. in the middle of next year.

Dr. Sahar Ismail reported that the placenta that is used to extract this treatment should be after a caesarean section, but the natural birth placenta is not used in this area, showing that only public hospitals will cooperate in the beginning to receive the placenta. for a caesarean section.

And Dr. Sahar Ismail added that it is planned to put in place organization laws to deal with private hospitals to receive placenta for caesarean sections to ensure that this project is not used to harm the public interest in particular.

Dr. Sahar Ismail said that the production laboratory will be set up at the highest level of safety and quality, which is in line with the international standards for the production of amniotic tissue extracted from the placenta in the Atomic Energy Administration, explaining that the experimental production of amniotic tissue and many scientific experiments have been carried out, proving its therapeutic efficacy and clinical compatibility for patients with pressure ulcers, diabetic foot and radiation burns.
