Due to the falsification of the age of the players, the country officially withdrew from the African Championship

The Mauritanian Football Association has announced the official withdrawal from the West African Under-15 Championship for Zone A, currently hosted by Liberia, in protest at the manipulation of players’ ages.

Mauritania suffered a crushing 6-0 loss to Sierra Leone in a match that brought them together on Thursday.

Photos showed that there was an age gap between the Mauritanian and Sierra Leone players, prompting the Mauritanian Federation to pull out of the tournament.

The Mauritanian Federation released a statement on its official Facebook page, stating: “It is in the interests of the Mauritanian Football Federation to contribute to the development of our federation in the countries of West Africa, Region A, we have always strived to participate in the competitions of this federation and the events are different.

However, with respect to the current U-15 Championship which kicked off today in Monrovia, Liberia, many observers on site and elsewhere told us that the data they have confirms that the age of the players of some participating teams on the field is far from the required age law to participate in this tournament.

– Considering the danger of such an issue to the health and safety of the players, as they may be susceptible to serious injury due to the age difference between different players participating in the tournament due to their young age,

– Considering that this situation violates the goals set by the Confederation of African Football “CAF” and its President Patrice Motsepe, who encourages basic football and high school football based on solid foundations as the only guarantee for the future of national teams in our continent,

– Considering also that this situation violates the technical development policy of our federations, which is being implemented with large material and human resources,

In order not to condone or encourage such practices,

The Executive Committee of the Mauritanian Football Association has decided to withdraw from the Union of West African Nations “Zone A” Under-15 Championship currently held in Liberia.

Stressing that this decision will in no way affect our commitment to being a member of this federation and our obligations to it, including continued participation in its championships and competitions, we hope everyone understands this decision.
