Denmark locks down 5 miles after gas pipeline leaks "Nord Stream 2"

The Danish Energy Agency reported that a gas leak was recorded in one of the two branches of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline in Danish waters southeast of Diode Beach and the imposition of an insulating cord along the leak.

According to the agency: “The Danish authorities have been informed of a sharp drop in pressure in the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, as preliminary checks indicate a leak in one of the two pipeline branches in Danish waters southeast of Diod. .”

The Danish maritime authorities issued a navigational warning and isolated the leak area for five nautical miles.

Earlier, Nord Stream AG announced that an emergency situation arose on the section of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline in Danish waters near the island of Bornholm, and a buffer zone of 5 nautical miles was introduced next to it.

On Monday, the operator said that the pressure of Nord Stream 2’s technical gas-filled Line A had plummeted, adding that coastal authorities in Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Russia had been notified immediately.

“There may have been a hole somewhere” along the pipes, Nord Stream AG spokesman Ulrich Lesek said.

He pointed out that under normal conditions, the pressure in the gas pipelines is “105 bar”, and now on the German side it is “only 7 bar”, and explained that establishing the reasons for the pressure drop is “difficult due to the sanctions regime and the lack of personnel on the ground” .
