Data from the British Statistics Office showed that the gross domestic product of the United Kingdom in the second quarter of 2022, according to preliminary estimates, grew by 2.9% year on year.
However, the data showed that the UK economy declined by 0.6% on a quarterly basis.
The data came out against the expectations of analysts polled by the DailyFx portal, who had expected the British economy to grow by 2.8% year on year, and decline by 0.2% quarterly.
