Czech government ratifies draft trade cooperation agreement with Qatar

The Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic Josef Sekila said that the government of his country has ratified the draft agreement on trade and economic cooperation with Qatar, which is likely to be signed during the visit of the Emir of Qatar to Prague.

“We have ratified a bilateral agreement on trade, economic and technical cooperation with Qatar. Both sides agreed on this document in record time,” Sekila said during a press conference on Monday.

He added: “I think I will sign this document with my Qatari counterpart during the planned visit of the Emir of Qatar.”

Sekila stressed the importance of the trade and economic partnership with Qatar in the light of the Czech Republic’s plans to diversify sources of energy supplies.

He added that in the future, cooperation could expand to other areas, such as the production of devices and machines for energy, the automotive industry, medical products, smart technologies and tourism.

The Minister emphasized that it is expected that the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission of the two countries on coordinating the development of trade, economic and technical cooperation between Prague and Doha will be held in the spring of 2023.
