Crossplay and Rollback Netcode Are Going to Feature in Tekken 8

One of the most anticipated fighting games currently available is Tekken 8, which was released not too long ago. This has been the case since it was discussed at length during the PlayStation State of Play event in September 2022. The most recent batch of news revealed that Tekken 8’s Game Director, Katsuhiro Harada, has confirmed that the game will feature crossplay elements and a highly sought-after rollback netcode. This information was revealed in the latest batch of news.

This is a first for the series, as there has never been a release that was available on more than one platform. For Tekken fans, this can only be seen as positive news. Including rollback in the net code ensures that online multiplayer matches will have the lowest possible latency and resilience.

When will Tekken 8 be available to buy?

Regrettably, there needs to be more information available regarding a release date for Tekken 8. Bandai Namco mentioned the possibility of Tekken 8 being released “in 2023 or later” during an earnings call in November 2022, which is about as vague as it is possible to get if we are being completely honest.

However, some news is still leaking out from the inner workings of Bandai Namco itself, as most recently, the Game Director, Katsuhiro Harada, took to the Twitter-based airwaves to throw out a few key confirmations about the game.

First and foremost, he emphasized the inclusion of crossplay in Tekken 8, which is currently in development. In response to a tweet that inquired about the possibility of crossplay in Tekken 8, Harada stated:

Crossplay? I will do that. BTW, back when the consoles of the previous generation were first made available, I already had the idea for crossplay between the two different platforms. On the other hand, they conflicted with one another at that time…

Then, a third Twitter user joined the conversation by posting a comment in which they inquired as to whether or not Tekken 8 would include a rollback netcode. In response, Harada said the following:

Already installed, and it already possesses what it is that you desire.

He mentioned that Bandai Namco is not making any announcements concerning this kind of news because ‘people like you will only say things like “waaaa! That can be considered typical in this day and age. Therefore, stop talking and take a seat already.’

Harada handled the announcements like a boss, breaking the news while also deftly handling the community at the same time. Credit where credit is due, Harada handled the announcements like a boss.
