Critical alerts issued in Egypt to halt cultivation of its key strategic produce through irrigation

The Field Crops Institute of the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture has issued recommendations for wheat farmers to follow during the current period, with weather fluctuations and strong winds.

The Field Crops Institute said in a statement that wheat is one of the important economic crops for the farmer and the state, and the following recommendations should be taken into account in order to maximize yields in the coming period:

1- Do not feel thirsty during this period, i.e. the period when the grain is full, taking into account not to irrigate in case of wind to avoid the process of lying in the wheat due to damage to the harvest, such as the occurrence of atrophy and drying of the grain and the spread of rodents, in addition to preventing the automatic harvesting of wheat , and thus harvesting is done by hand, which adds to the cost of producing wheat for farms and crop shortfalls that can be as high as 20%.

2- Keep checking the various echoes periodically and monitor them as soon as they appear.

3- Periodic inspection and control of the aphid insect due to its serious damage to the crop, despite the ease of control.

4- The last watering (weaning) should be given on the old lands when the plants enter the stage of physiological maturity (yellowing of the ear and its bearer in more than half of the field). days before harvest.

5- Harvesting occurs at full maturity so that the humidity is 14% so that there is no damage to the grains during storage. This can be determined by grinding the grains between the teeth and not delaying harvesting until dead maturity, which occurs with splitting of ears, excess grain and loss of yield .

6- Various weeds scattered across the fields are removed to reduce their appearance when sown next season when sowing wheat.
