Countries "quads" Calls for expansion of the UN Security Council

The Quadruple Security Dialogue (Quad), which includes the US, Australia, Japan and India, has called for reform of the United Nations and expansion of permanent membership on the UN Security Council.

A joint statement by the foreign ministers of the four countries, meeting on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Friday, said: “We are committed to revitalizing a comprehensive United Nations reform agenda, including by expanding the number of permanent and non-permanent seats on the Security Council corresponds to the current global reality and includes more geographically diverse points of view.”

Four countries reaffirmed their “full support” for the efforts of the United Nations to advance the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
