Valve has announced Counter-Strike 2, the newest version of the best and most famous competitive first-person shooter ever. “Counter-Strike 2 is a complete redesign of every system, every piece of content, and every part of the C-S experience,” says the game’s developer.
Along with the announcement, several videos show how Counter-Strike 2 will change everything. At the moment, there are three, which are shown below. They talk about smokes, going beyond tick rates, and map changes.
Here is the official explanation of the idea of moving past tick rates.
“Counter-Strike 2 is all about sub-tick updates. Before, the server only looked at the world at certain times (called ticks). With Counter-Strike 2’s sub-tick update architecture, servers know exactly when motion starts, a shot is fired, or a ‘nade is thrown. So, regardless of the tick rate, you can always move, shoot, and throw grenades similarly.”
“Counter-Strike 2 is the biggest technical step forward in the history of Counter-Strike,” said Valve. This means the game will keep getting new features and updates for years. “All of the new features of the game will be shown when it officially comes out this summer, but the road to Counter-Strike 2 starts today for a small group of CS: GO players in the form of a “Limited Test.” During this testing period, we’ll look at a subset of features to see if any problems must be fixed before the full release.”
Counter-Strike 2 will be added to CS: GO for free, which is impressive. This would always be huge, but keeping the free-to-play model ensures it will be a huge hit when it comes out and for a long time afterward. Even more surprising, everything stays the same:
“Bring everything you have in CS: GO to Counter-Strike 2. You’ll keep everything you’ve collected over the years, and Source 2 lighting and materials will help them all. All stock weapons have been updated with high-resolution models, and some weapon finishes take advantage of these new models.”
