CNN discloses details of McCarthy’s meeting with Taiwan President including date and location

CNN reported that Speaker of the US House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy will meet Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen in California on Wednesday, despite warnings from China and an unwelcome meeting.

According to US media reports, the meeting will be held at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, in Simi Valley, southern California, near Los Angeles.

Earlier, China announced its readiness to respond if McCarthy met with the President of Taiwan.

For her part, Zhu Fenglian, spokeswoman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, confirmed that such contact between McCarthy and the Taiwanese president would cause serious damage to China’s sovereignty, which would be categorically rejected by Beijing.

Tensions between the United States and China over Taiwan have risen significantly since former Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi visited Taipei in early August 2022.

For its part, China condemned Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, which he considers one of his provinces, and considered this visit as American incitement to secession of Taipei from Beijing, and in response, conducted military maneuvers over Taiwan’s airspace.
