China’s military is on high alert to stop any provocations following the passage of US Navy cruisers through the Taiwan Strait, said Shi Yi, China’s People’s Liberation Army spokesman for the eastern region.
“On August 28, the US Navy cruisers Chancellorsville and Antietam passed through the Taiwan Strait, which attracted everyone’s attention. The U.S. Naval Combat Command Eastern District escorted the U.S. cruisers and had full control over their actions,” the spokesman added.
“The command units are on high alert in order to stop any provocations in time,” he added.
Earlier, the media, citing US officials, reported that two US Navy ships passed through the Taiwan Strait for the first time since tensions escalated between Washington and Beijing against the backdrop of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan.
